This post features my opinion.
Pacific Grove, California, is one of the few migratory destinations in the world for the Monarch butterfly. Each year during the months of October and November, thousands of these fragile and elegant creatures make an 1800 mile trek to various groves of trees in the area. Protecting these wonders of nature is a sign reading "Caution, Butterfly Zone." There is a city ordinance authorizing punishment by a weighty fine for anyone caught hurting or interfering in any way with the safety of the butterflies. The small, bright, golden-colored Monarch butterfly, as the one you see in the picture, is protected because of its beauty and its purpose. The purpose of the buttterfly is to pollinate or carry pollen from plant to plant, helping fruits, vegetables, and flowers to produce new seeds. I would like to mention the fact they do not sting or bite and do not become pests in our homes. Perhaps we could say a butterfly is beauty without harm.
Now for my opinion. If the butterfly is important to our environment and needs protection, should we not be concerned about the other God given blessings we enjoy on this earth. One blessing is air, without it we could not live. Every single living entity, yes, that includes all human beings, are dependent on its life giving power. It seems to me, air free from pollution should be a major concern for all of us and we should protect its life giving energy like chains of steel.
Mother Earth is good to us with her beauty and resources and we should think twice about acts of disrespect. It gives me feelings of sadness when others throw trash and litter about. What about unnecessary killing of animals and birds? It's depressing to know water can be contaminated. Seeing the effect of poisoning beautiful and useful plants seems unforgivable. The noxious odor of smoke, brought on by wild fires in our forests, is sicking as one realizes the long growth of trees and homes of many animals being destroyed. Also, the defacing of trees, rocks, and the pristine environment is disturbing to one's conscience.
Hopefully, we all will become aware of our responsibility and take the challenge of protecting our wonderful world. Chieko N. Okazaki wrote, "The most important things we can do is to realize that human beings don't own this planet. We share this planet with all the rest of God's creations."
With my final comments, I recall my biology professor telling his class, "To be of service to your community, keep a well cared for yard."

I would like to share with you a picture of the far corner of our front yard.

Concern for God's creations must bring contentment to Mother Earth.
Let's all do our part.
Let's all do our part.
Until the next post, I send thoughts of peace to you.
Thanks for this great reminder. Just came in from working in the yard. I do love Mother Earth. I think it's beautiful. Hugs and love.
